Lost

We walked out on
A clear winter’s day
To enjoy the season and to be alone.
The cold air froze our kisses.
Even in the barn.
So we chose to return to the watchful eyes
And the warm hearth.
You gave me your gloves and scarf.
As the clouds encircled us
I lost you in the falling snow.
You thought you were being noble
Searching for the way home.
When you let go of my hand
I knew
Home was only yards away
And you were gone
Forever.
