Alone

The breath of the attendants
Made the candles dance.
She was awake
Dreaming of the past;
His body in the midday- sun
And the light on his shield.
A dream that the ladies
Spoke of.
How was she to know
His life was as
Dispensable as the
Leather cast aside in a
Tanner’s shop?
He was gone;
As was a father and husband.
Could she hold up the faltering temple?
Their son?
With
Woman’s hands.
